PRELUDE

GREETINGS and ANNOUNCEMENTS  Rev. Barbara Libby

Please sign the black friendship pad located in your pew and pass it along to those next to you.  If you would like to make a prayer request, please locate and fill out a Prayer Card in your pew and place it in the offering plate.

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive)

One:      The smallest thing, under the influence of the eternal God, is made infinitely precious and eternal.

All:      If we come to worship focusing on our needs, we will go away feeling let down.

One:  If we come wanting a God made in our own likeness, we will be disappointed.

All:      If we come rigid in our ideas and set in our ways, we will leave as empty as we arrived.

One:      If we put God first, we shall never worship in vain.

All:      Let us proclaim together what we believe:  The Lord our God is One.  We will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our mind, and with all our strength.  Come, let us worship!

*HYMN #665 (Blue)  Where Cross the Crowded Ways of Life  (verses 1,2,3)

*PRAYER of INVOCATION (unison)

Holy Friend, from a pernicious preoccupation with our own thoughts, prejudices and wants, we turn to you.  Disturb us that we may drop our defences, unsettle us that we may be open to change, overawe us that we may cast aside our self-centeredness and find our true center in you.  Please confront us with your glory.  Bring us to that point where we let go of all that is tatty or second-rate and launch out into sincere and joyful praise.  For it is through our brother, Jesus, that we pray and, in his words, we pray together …

*LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.  Amen.

*GLORIA PATRI

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the Beginning, is now and ever shall be; World without end.  Amen.

NOTES OF PARISH LIFE

J³ BAZAAR BUZZ:  JAMS, JELLIES and JARS     Now is the time to gather fruit for your jams and jellies (we needed lots more last year).  Ditto for pickles and relishes.  If you have excess jars and tops, please put them in the Women’s Fellowship closet for our canners to use.

MCC BOOK SALE   Gloria Bradley and Kristy Head are looking for books and volunteers.  You may drop off your books in Room 3.  Volunteers are needed every Tuesday, 9:30-11:30 a.m.  Come when you can.

YOU CAN HELP IN RESPONSE TO THE MID-WEST SPRING 2008 TORNADOS and FLOODS   In the wake of devastating flooding and a record number of tornados striking mid-America this spring, the United Church of Christ has issued a $200,000 emergency appeal and a call for volunteers to assist with immediate relief and long-term recovery. One Great Hour of Sharing solidarity grants are now being shared with Conferences and local UCC congregations to support immediate relief efforts.  Prices for materials to repair damaged homes and seed and fertilizer to replant crops are increasing steadily.  The UCC has pledged our support to assist in long-term recovery efforts.  Your gifts will help.  Please give generously - make your checks out to MCC - Mark Tornadoes and Floods Response. Volunteer clean up and rebuilding crews are also being recruited. Opportunities for service appear on the UCC web site: ucc.org  Our heartfelt prayers, service and generous contributions are needed now to assist our sisters and brothers in mid-America.

MOHEGAN SUN GAME on JULY 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m.  The next fun event for the church could be, providing enough of you are interested, a trip to a WNBA Mohegan Sun basketball game.  Several on the team played previously at UConn and, so far, the Sun ladies are doing well.  The only Sunday afternoon date that works with our church calendar is July 20th (Sunday).  They will play against the WNBA Chicago Sky team.  The only tickets we are sure of acquiring (upper bleachers at each end of the court) cost $14 each.  Reservation Forms are available in the sanctuary tables or the church office.  Payment is due upon reservation.  Return form and payment to either Marge Moore or the church office.  Deadline is June 29, 2008 (Sunday).  Make check out to “Mystic Congregational Church” (Notation:  “Mohegan Sun Game”).  Questions?  Call Marge Moore, xxx-xxxx.

SUMMER NURSERY VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT SIGN-UP sheet is on the Volunteer bulletin board outside the Sanctuary.  Mrs. Graham, our paid attendant, will continue to provide care to our babies during the summer months for the 10:00 a.m. service, but she should have an assistant for emergencies.  Please consider taking a turn at this most cheerful ministry.

COVENANTAL PRAYERS THIS WEEK are for the Prospect Congregational Church, Putnam Congregational Church, First Church of Christ Congregational-Redding Center, Ridgebury Congregational Church UCC-Ridgefield, First Congregational Riverton Congregational Church.

PRAYER CHAIN  The Prayer Chain is active!  A group of 15 of our fellow parishioners have gathered around this important ministry.  If you have a prayer concern which you feel could be helped by the prayers of this group, let them know. To put the Prayer Chain in motion for you, call Jennifer Dean-Howes at xxx-xxxx, or Pastor Barbara through the Church Office, 536-4259 Ext.112.  All prayer requests are held in the strictest confidence.

HEARING SYSTEM  Please be aware that a system for the hearing-impaired is now available in the Sanctuary.  Questions?  Please ask the Deacons.
